Does anybody know how to clean a vintage Jean jacket without ruining it? Google won't give me a straight answer and I don't want to risk it

It's by the brand Izzi, I assume it's from the 80s, I believe there is some discoloration in the fabric, and it smells very old and musty

Finished ‘Wolf Brother’ this morning, and swiftly moved on to the second book, walked my dog and got excited by all the trees that are finally starting to change colour, put all my washing away, read more ‘Spirit Walker’ and from my design magazine, watched TV with my dad, and finally a nice long hot bath.

As someone who does actually follow the instructions for the most part (dry clean? You mean soak and leave to hang dry???), here is my number one tip for hand-washing clothes.

Wear 'em into the shower.

That's it.

Just get into the shower with whatever on your body and give yourself a good soaking. In fact, go ahead and use your body wash on that bad boy. It's job is to remove body oils and odor build-up. That's what your clothes need.

Give yourself a good scrub up, then strip that thing off and hold it out to get it fully rinsed in the water.

If you don't have a second person to do the squeeze-out for you, throw it over the shower rod until you're done.

Once you're done, either hand-squeeze that thing as you drip dry in the tub/shower or you can get a dry towel, roll the garment in it, and then press on it with your forearms and knees to press out the extra water.

Depending on the tag, either hang it up or lay it flat.

By the way, if you have a place you can just leave the thing to drip dry without you squeezing the water out, it'll take more time but less effort. If you've got a balcony, a clean towel over the railing to keep anything from getting on the garment will take care of it. I don't recommend just leaving it to do so over the shower rod because shower mats aren't built to take on a steady influx of water, so it could go through the mat and mess up the floor.

Clotheslines do make a place look great! We're not a city and they wouldn't ever be banned around here, because there would be war, but the other day I was walking home from work and the river apartments all had their washing out on the balconies because it was sunny, and it just makes you feel good! It's like, there's people living here, the sunshine drew out pieces of them, you can see optimistic swimming togs, and towels, and someone's four year old tired pink bra, and there's nothing in the world so indicative of life and normal people doing normal things all around you.

(Also, usually washing out specifically means it's sunny, so there's a bit of your brain that just associates it with good weather and good moods)

We use the drier most of the winter, and then the line most of the summer. I'd say a lot of Ireland does similar. We do have a clothes horse (that thing a couple posts up), but it doesn't fit very well in our house and we have a dog, so usually it's the drier if it's too horrible out for the line.

I've even put clotheslines in in minecraft, just because it makes the place look lived in, you know?

Of course, since banners are the only cloth-looking things you can really hang on them, it mostly looks like everyone in minecraft is constantly putting on towel washes. Or maybe rugs. Heh.

Ok, so something I've noticed that is utterly baffling to me is that all the Americans I know primarily dry their clothes using a machine called a dryer. I don't even own a dryer. So, I need to know:

Please help my partner and I get groceries!

Almost a month ago now we tested positive for C19 and as a result I missed 2 whole weeks of work which means I lost out on a whole check and I have not been paid since then on top of the company shorting a previous check

This has left us with no money and dependent on crowdfunding for the time being, we've been skirting by on the kindness of friends but as it stands we've only been eating one meal a day for the past 3 weeks and this is not sustainable

We really need groceries and toiletries, we've run out of soap laundry detergent (I NEED clean clothes to be able to go to work) and hygiene products of all kinds and our fridge and pantry are bare

We can't keep this up, we've both struggled with lethargy and low blood sugar symptoms recently and my partner has been struggling with their health as a result

We'd need a total of $450 to cover everything including groceries toiletries and rides to work for the rest of the week
